TikTok Ads Price in Malaysia 2026: CPC, CPM and Minimums

tiktok advertising cost

Quick answer. TikTok does not sell ads at a fixed price. You bid in an auction and pay per click or per thousand impressions. In Malaysia, budget RM0.50 to RM2.00 per click and RM5 to RM15 per thousand impressions as a planning range. TikTok’s own published minimums are in US dollars, not ringgit: a campaign daily budget must exceed USD 50, about RM204, and an ad group daily budget must exceed USD 20, about RM82. Add 8% service tax on top of everything you spend. A realistic first test is RM3,000 to RM5,000 a month for six weeks.

Most Malaysian guides to TikTok ad pricing repeat the same two numbers: a RM50 campaign minimum and a RM20 daily ad group minimum. Both are wrong, and they are wrong in the expensive direction. TikTok publishes those floors in US dollars. Converted at Bank Negara Malaysia’s rate of 4.0808 on 18 September 2026, the real numbers are roughly four times what the copied version says.

This page fixes that, and it puts a ringgit figure next to every cost you will actually be billed for, including the service tax that shows up on the invoice rather than in the campaign settings.

How big is TikTok’s Malaysian audience, really

TikTok’s own ad planning tool reported a potential ad reach of 30.7 million users aged 18 and over in Malaysia in late 2025, equal to 86.8% of the internet user base (DataReportal, Digital 2026: Malaysia, published 8 November 2025).

Read that carefully before you put it in a deck. It is potential ad reach from TikTok’s planning tool, not a headcount of Malaysians with an account. The figure exceeds Malaysia’s adult population, and DataReportal flags that itself. Multiple accounts, VPN traffic and duplicated devices all inflate it. What it tells you honestly is that TikTok’s Malaysian inventory is deep enough that reach is almost never the constraint on a campaign. Cost per result is.

That matters for budgeting. On a platform where inventory is plentiful, your cost is set by how many other advertisers want the same audience at the same moment, and by how well your creative holds attention. Not by scarcity.

The two numbers TikTok actually charges you on

Cost per click

You pay each time someone taps the ad. This is the default billing method for traffic, conversion, lead generation and app install campaigns.

Malaysian planning range: RM0.50 to RM2.00 per click.

Beauty, fashion, finance and insurance sit at the top of that band because the auction for young urban buyers is crowded. F&B, services and education usually land nearer the bottom. Creative moves the number more than bidding does: TikTok’s delivery system rewards videos that hold watch time with cheaper clicks, so a stronger hook lowers CPC without you touching a bid.

Cost per thousand impressions

You pay for the ad being served, whether anyone taps it or not. This is how reach, brand awareness and video view campaigns bill.

Malaysian planning range: RM5 to RM15 per thousand impressions.

CPM climbs during Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, the 11.11 and 12.12 sale peaks and the week before each payday, because every retail advertiser in the country is bidding at once. If your product is not tied to a season, running the flight just before or just after those windows is the single cheapest optimisation available to you.

Both ranges are MediaPlus planning ranges drawn from Malaysian account data, 2025 to 2026. They are not published benchmarks. No third party publishes a dated Malaysia or Southeast Asia TikTok cost benchmark with a stated method, and we checked for one. Anyone quoting you a precise Malaysian TikTok CPM with a decimal point and no source is quoting a US figure or an invention.

TikTok’s real minimum budgets, in the currency TikTok uses

This is where most Malaysian advertisers get caught. TikTok sets its minimums in US dollars and publishes no ringgit equivalent.

Ad group daily budget

A 31 day flight needs USD 620, about RM2,530

Source: TikTok Ads Manager help centre, “About Budget” and its Minimum Budget Guidelines, page states last updated July 2026. Conversion at USD 1 = MYR 4.0808, Bank Negara Malaysia, 18 September 2026.

The lifetime rule catches people out more often than the daily one. The floor is the daily minimum multiplied by every day of the flight, past days included. Set a campaign live on the first of the month with a RM1,500 lifetime budget and a 31 day end date and it will not run, because the platform wants at least USD 620.

Two practical notes that cost money if you learn them late:

You cannot switch between daily and lifetime budgets once a campaign or ad group is live. Decide before you launch. If you get it wrong, the fix is to duplicate the ad group, which restarts learning.

MYR is a supported ad account currency in Malaysia alongside USD, with Boost, Touch ’n Go and FPX available on pre-pay and credit line accounts. So you can be billed in ringgit even though the minimums are quoted in dollars. Currency, country and time zone all lock at account creation and cannot be changed afterwards, so a rushed account setup follows you for the life of the account.

So what should you actually start at?

Not the minimum. A campaign sitting at USD 20 a day in an ad group gets so few conversion events that the delivery system never learns who to show the ad to, and you pay learning-phase prices for the whole flight.

Most Malaysian brands should start at RM100 to RM200 a day, once you are above the platform floor. That is roughly RM3,000 to RM6,000 a month, which is enough for two or three creative variants to gather signal inside six weeks.

Two corrections worth flagging, because they appear on almost every competing Malaysian page:

Brand Takeover. We have removed it. TikTok no longer documents Brand Takeover as a bookable format. Its help centre index of 1,345 articles returns nothing for “takeover”, and the only surviving mention on the solutions page sits inside an old case study. TikTok published no dated retirement notice, so the honest statement is that TikTok no longer documents it, not that TikTok retired it on a given date. If you have been quoted “RM5,000 per day for a Brand Takeover”, ask which TikTok documentation that comes from. TopView is the documented full-screen launch format now.

Branded Hashtag Challenge. TikTok’s help article for Branded Hashtag Challenge now redirects to its Branded Mission article, and a hashtag page survives only as an add-on. Branded Mission is listed as available in Malaysia. The RM2,000 entry price that circulates for hashtag challenges does not come from TikTok and we will not publish it.

TikTok Shop ads changed shape in 2025

If you sell through TikTok Shop, the campaign types you may have read about no longer exist in the form described. Since July 2025, GMV Max is the default and only supported campaign type for TikTok Shop Ads, and Video Shopping Ads can no longer use TikTok Shop as a destination (TikTok Ads Manager, GMV Max migration article, March 2026). Both Product GMV Max and LIVE GMV Max are live in Malaysia.

Practically, that means less manual control and more reliance on your product feed and creative volume. If your TikTok Shop listing has weak images, thin descriptions or no reviews, GMV Max will spend into that weakness. Our guide to how to sell on TikTok in Malaysia covers the listing side of that.

The 8% service tax on your TikTok spend

TikTok applies an 8% Digital Service Tax to ad purchases where the business address on the account is set to Malaysia, charged each time you add money to the account (TikTok Ads Manager, Malaysia DST help article, last updated May 2026).

A RM5,000 monthly budget therefore costs RM5,400. On a RM60,000 annual plan that is RM4,800 nobody put in the forecast.

This is not a TikTok surcharge. Google Ads carries the same 8% on Malaysian sales and Meta applies the prevailing local rate, so it is simply the cost of buying digital advertising in Malaysia. Advertising services have been taxable here since 1 September 2018 under Group I item 8 of the Service Tax Regulations 2018, and the rate moved from 6% to 8% on 1 March 2024 under the Service Tax (Rate of Tax) (Amendment) Order 2024, P.U. (A) 64.

One caution before you quote 8% in a board paper. The Royal Malaysian Customs announcements page lists a “Service Tax (Rate of Tax) (Amendment) Order 2026” dated 17 March 2026 that does not appear in the same department’s own SST Orders register, and its text could not be retrieved from any official source we searched. Two official pages disagree with each other. 8% is the operative rate stated on every advertising platform page we checked in September 2026, but confirm the current rate with your accountant or with Customs directly before it goes into a client-facing quotation. Also avoid quoting a rate from Customs’ older advertising and foreign-supplier guides: those still print 6% throughout because they predate the 2024 change and have not been reissued.

Put the tax on the budget line before it reaches finance, not after.

What moves your TikTok cost up or down

Factor

Effect on cost

What to do about it

Season

CPM rises sharply across Raya, CNY, Deepavali, 11.11, 12.12 and payweek

Shift non-seasonal flights into the quiet weeks between peaks

Audience narrowness

Every extra filter shrinks the pool and raises the price of winning it

Start broad and let the system find buyers. Narrow only when the data says to

Creative watch time

The biggest single lever. Weak hooks cost you twice, in CPM and in CTR

Front-load the hook in the first two seconds. Refresh every two to three weeks

Objective

Conversion and lead objectives cost more per event than reach or traffic

Match the objective to the actual business outcome, not to the cheapest number

Placement

In-feed is the cheapest inventory. Reservation formats are priced separately

Leave placements broad unless brand safety requires otherwise

Bid strategy

Lowest cost finds volume, cost cap protects margin but can underspend

Use lowest cost while learning, move to cost cap once you know your true CPA

Creative fatigue deserves special mention because it is the most expensive thing most Malaysian accounts get wrong. TikTok audiences see an ad far more times per week than Facebook audiences do, and a video that delivered RM0.70 clicks in week one routinely delivers RM1.60 clicks by week four with no other change. Budget for a creative refresh cycle, not just media. Our notes on TikTok marketing in Malaysia go into the production side.

TikTok against the other platforms in Malaysia

Comparisons only help if the numbers come from somewhere. Each figure below is quoted from the MediaPlus page that owns it, so you are not reading two different sets of numbers on two of our pages.

Platform

CPC (Malaysia)

CPM (Malaysia)

Where it earns its place

TikTok

RM0.50 to RM2.00

RM5 to RM15

Cheapest attention at scale. Discovery, not intent

Facebook

RM0.40 to RM3.00

RM8 to RM25

Broadest targeting and the strongest retargeting stack

Instagram Reels

RM0.80 to RM2.00

RM8 to RM14

Visual-first categories: beauty, fashion, F&B, travel

Google Search

RM1.20 to RM40

Not the relevant unit

Captures demand that already exists. Highest intent, highest price

LinkedIn

RM2 to RM10

Higher than all of the above

B2B only. Worth it when a lead is worth four figures

Facebook and Instagram figures come from Facebook ads price in Malaysia and are also summarised on our Instagram ads cost page. Search and Shopping figures come from Google Ads price in Malaysia. Video pricing sits on YouTube ads cost.

Note what this does to a claim that used to sit on this page. TikTok’s CPM band of RM5 to RM15 is below Facebook’s RM8 to RM25, so the old line saying Facebook CPM is “often lower than TikTok” was wrong on our own numbers. On reach alone, TikTok is currently the cheaper buy in Malaysia. Facebook wins on targeting depth and on retargeting warm audiences, not on price per impression.

What to budget, month by month

Monthly ad spend

What it realistically buys

Suitable for

RM3,000 to RM5,000

One objective, two to three creatives, enough events to leave learning in about six weeks

First test, single product, one city

RM5,000 to RM12,000

Two objectives running together, a retargeting layer, weekly creative refresh

Established SME scaling a proven offer

RM12,000 to RM30,000

Full funnel, creator content pipeline, GMV Max running alongside brand campaigns

Retail and ecommerce through a sale season

RM30,000 and above

Reservation formats such as TopView or Branded Mission alongside always-on auction buying

National launches and brand campaigns

Add 8% service tax to every row. And keep creative production out of the media line: a monthly TikTok programme that produces nothing new will get more expensive every week it runs.

Six weeks is the shortest honest test window. Below that you are reading learning-phase data and calling it performance.

Eight ways to bring your cost per result down

  1. Shoot for the feed, not for the brand book. Vertical, natural light, on-screen captions, a face in the first frame. Polished television cuts underperform against phone-shot content on this platform with reliable consistency.
  2. Use Spark Ads on posts that already worked. Boosting an organic video that earned real watch time starts you with proven creative and keeps the social proof attached to the ad.
  3. Put the hook in the first two seconds. Not the logo. A question, a problem, a price, or the finished result shown before the process.
  4. Let creators make the volume. Creator footage tends to hold attention longer than studio footage, and Branded Mission exists precisely to produce it at scale.
  5. Start broad on targeting. TikTok’s system finds buyers faster than a media planner does. Add exclusions before you add filters.
  6. Run a real test, not a preference poll. One variable at a time, enough budget in each cell to reach roughly 50 conversion events, and a decision date set before you launch.
  7. Watch cost per result, not CPM. A RM14 CPM that produces RM12 leads beats a RM6 CPM that produces RM40 leads. Cheap impressions are not the goal.
  8. Refresh creative on a schedule. Every two to three weeks, before performance drops, not after. Fatigue is a cost line.

Most of the saving available to a Malaysian TikTok account is in points one to four. Bidding tweaks move cost by a few per cent. Creative moves it by half.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum budget for TikTok ads in Malaysia?

TikTok publishes its floors in US dollars, not ringgit. A campaign daily budget must exceed USD 50, roughly RM204, and an ad group daily budget must exceed USD 20, roughly RM82, at the 18 September 2026 Bank Negara rate. The widely repeated “RM50 campaign minimum” is wrong by about four times. For a campaign that can actually optimise, plan on RM100 to RM200 a day.

How much does a TikTok ad cost per click in Malaysia?

Budget RM0.50 to RM2.00 per click as a planning range from our Malaysian account data. Beauty, fashion and finance sit at the top of that band; F&B and services nearer the bottom. Your creative influences the number more than your bid does.

Is TikTok cheaper than Facebook in Malaysia?

On impressions, yes. TikTok CPM runs RM5 to RM15 against Facebook’s RM8 to RM25. On clicks the two overlap. Facebook remains stronger for retargeting and for audiences over 40, so the sensible answer is usually to run both and compare cost per result rather than cost per impression.

Do I pay tax on TikTok ads in Malaysia?

Yes. TikTok charges 8% Digital Service Tax on ad purchases when the account’s business address is Malaysia, applied each time you top up. A RM5,000 budget costs RM5,400. Confirm the current rate with your accountant before publishing it in a quotation, because one 2026 amendment order listed by Customs could not be retrieved from any official source.

How much does a Brand Takeover cost on TikTok?

TikTok no longer documents Brand Takeover as a bookable format, so any price quoted for it should be treated with suspicion. The current full-screen launch format is TopView, sold as a reservation through a TikTok sales contact with no published rate card. Expect a five-figure ringgit commitment and ask for the media plan in writing.

Can I pay for TikTok ads in ringgit?

Yes. MYR is a supported ad account currency in Malaysia, with Boost, Touch ’n Go and FPX available on pre-pay and credit line accounts. The platform minimums are still quoted in US dollars. Currency, country and time zone lock permanently when the account is created, so set them deliberately.

How long before TikTok ads work?

Allow six weeks at RM3,000 a month or more. The first one to two weeks are the learning phase, where cost per result is artificially high while the system gathers events. Judging a campaign at day ten is the most common reason Malaysian advertisers abandon TikTok before it has had a chance.

Should I use GMV Max or a normal conversion campaign?

If you sell through TikTok Shop you do not have a choice: GMV Max has been the only supported campaign type for TikTok Shop Ads since July 2025, and Video Shopping Ads can no longer point at TikTok Shop. Both Product and LIVE GMV Max run in Malaysia. If you sell on your own website, a standard conversion campaign with the TikTok pixel still applies.

The bottom line

TikTok is currently the cheapest way to buy attention at scale in Malaysia, and the numbers most guides publish about it are wrong in ways that will embarrass you in a budget meeting. Get the three real ones right: USD 50 and USD 20 as platform floors, RM0.50 to RM2.00 and RM5 to RM15 as planning ranges, and 8% on top of everything. Then spend your effort on creative, because that is where the actual saving lives.

Creating Successful TikTok Ads in Malaysia: A Step-By-Step Guide

Running a strong TikTok campaign requires more than just posting a video and hoping for the best. The platform rewards good creative, smart optimisation and consistent testing. Use the step-by-step process below to build campaigns that resonate with Malaysian audiences and deliver steady results.

1. Understand Your Audience

Before you create anything, get very clear about who you want to reach. TikTok’s algorithm is powerful, but you still need to guide it in the right direction.

Think about:

  • Age groups

  • Interests and behaviours

  • Buying motivations

  • Lifestyle and cultural preferences

  • Common pain points or frustrations

Malaysian audiences can vary a lot depending on region, language and community, so take time to understand what your target group watches and interacts with on TikTok. The more accurate your audience insight, the smoother your campaign will run.

2. Use TikTok’s Ad Creation Tools

TikTok gives you a range of built-in tools that simplify the creative process and help you produce content that fits the platform’s style.

Useful tools include:

  • Smart Video for automatic editing

  • Creative Center for trend inspiration and top-performing ideas

  • Video templates for fast ad creation

  • Auto captions to improve watch time

  • Trending audio and sound suggestions

Even without professional filming or editing skills, these tools make it easy to create ads that look native and capture attention quickly.

3. Leverage User Content

Real people create trust, and trust drives conversions. UGC is one of the most effective forms of content on TikTok because it feels honest and relatable.

Ways to use UGC:

  • Showcase customer testimonials

  • Use unboxing videos

  • Ask creators to film simple product demos

  • Highlight before-and-after results

  • Encourage customers to share their own clips

UGC often performs better than brand-produced ads, and it usually costs less to create.

4. Use Influencers Wisely

Influencer marketing is powerful on TikTok, but you don’t always need big names to see results.

Micro-influencers in Malaysia offer:

  • More authentic engagement

  • Lower fees

  • Stronger community loyalty

  • Higher conversion rates for niche products

When choosing influencers, focus on relevance and audience quality rather than follower count. A creator with ten thousand engaged followers can outperform someone with a million passive followers.

5. Test Different Formats

Not all ad formats work the same way, and different goals need different placements.

Examples:

  • In-Feed Ads for conversions and everyday reach

  • Spark Ads for boosting organic content

  • Shopping Ads for direct sales

  • Branded Effects for engagement

  • TopView or Takeovers for launches

Start with small budgets to see which format resonates with your audience. Once you identify what works, scale the winning ones and drop the rest.

6. Monitor, Measure and Improve

A TikTok campaign needs close monitoring, especially in the first few days. This is when the algorithm learns what works and what doesn’t.

Keep an eye on:

  • Scroll rate

  • Hold rate

  • Watch time

  • CTR

  • Conversion cost

  • Frequency

  • Comments and viewer reactions

If something isn’t working, adjust quickly. Simple changes to your caption, hook or music choice can improve performance and reduce your advertising cost.
